Meaningful Use Stage 2 takes it to the next level. Starting in 2014, providers participating in the EHR Incentive Programs who have met Stage 1 for two or three years will need to meet meaningful use Stage 2 criteria.
Stage 2 includes objectives on exchanging clinical data with other sources, tracking clinical outcomes, targeted patient-care initiatives and patient access to self-management tools. It has both consolidated and new requirements and clinical quality measures that align with other reporting programs. Stage 2 also includes rigorous expectations for health information exchange through increased emphasis on exchanging clinical summary documents to improve care coordination and public health reporting.
